Justice Muhammed Lima of Benin division of Federal High Court on Thursday sentenced Michael Igbinedion, son of Gabriel Igbinedion, a Benin based billionaire to six years imprisonment over alleged laundering of N25 billion fund belonging to Edo state government.

Justice Lima also sentenced Patrick Eboigbodin, an aide to the former governor Lucky Igbinedion to 20 years imprisonment, in addition to a fine of N250,000 on a 10-count charge.

Nigerian troops yesterday rescued more women and children from the said forests. According to the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman who made this known to press men yesterday said a soldier died, while four others were injured, but many Boko Haram insurgents were killed in the battle. “I wish to inform you that today (Wednesday) evening, troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army also cleared several terrorists strong points and training camps within Sambisa forest, Borno State, Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Environment, Lagos State, Mr. Tunji Bello and the General Manager of the Lagos State Environment Protection, LASEPA, Mr Ademola Shabi yesterday in Alausa disclosed that the State Government has shutdown 24 religious houses in year 2014.

According to him, the State Government received over 1000 petitions, but 24 has been shut down so far, while most of the religious houses have relocated.The commissioner also said religious outfits contribute 50% of the noise pollution in the State, and they are working towards shutting down more.

Younger Brother Of Ex Governor Lucky Igbinedion Convicted Of Money Laundering

Michael Igbinedion, the younger brother of Lucky Igbinedion, a former governor of Edo state, was yesterday, convicted by a Federal High Court in Benin in a N25 billion money laundering case instituted against him and five others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Others convicted in the 81-count charge of money laundering are Patrick Eboigbodin, a former Accountant-General and the four companies are Gava Corporation Limited, Romrig Nigeria Limited, PMI Securities Company Limited and PML (Nigeria) Limited.

The Federal Government has condemned the execution of four Nigerians by Indonesian authorities over drug-related offences, demanding the repatriation of the corpses of the executed persons for them to be given a decent burial in their various communities.

According to a statement on Wednesday night from the Public Communications Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja,the Federal government called the executions a disappointment, despite pleas for clemency by president Jonathan.

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has withdrawn the suit he filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the moves by the 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the state House of Assembly to remove him from office.

Meanwhile, a similar suit filed by his seven supporters, who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state House of Assembly, is still pending before Justice Evoh Chukwu of the same Federal High Court in Abuja.

Presidency Warns Buhari Against Ending Amnesty Program

The administration of the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan gave reasons why the elected Muhammadu Buhari’s government should not scrap the Presidential Amnesty agenda for ex-militants in the Niger Delta region.

The presidency cautioned the president-elect that any effort to stop the programme would erupt crisis in the area.

The president-elect of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari, has instructed all his staff, including the personnel attached directly to him, to steer clear of all dealings with the media, and leave all media affairs to his official media team.

Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The new Managing Director is the eldest son of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, in Abuja in Wednesday, said Alhaji Sanusi, a lawyer, from Kano State takes over from Mallam Habib Abdullahi who has been relieved of his appointment as Managing Director of the NPA.

A three-year old marriage between Mr Femi Olayiwole and wife, Kemi, was today dissolved at an Abeokuta Customary Court sitting in Ake for absence of vagina, deceit, and frequent fighting.

Olayiwole told the court that his wife deceived him to marry her knowing that she could not bear him a child. He accused his wife, who had failed to appear in court after being summoned several times, of living a false life, frequent fighting and threatening his life.

The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun,, Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi and former Abia State governor, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who will serve as the Vice Chairman.

Other members are – former Kaduna State governor, Brig. Gen, Lawal Ja’afaru Isah, former Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, former Petroleum Resources Minister, Prof. Tam David West and former Chairman of the National Population Commission, Chief Festus Odimegwu.
