Time With Christ: Friday, August 29, daily devotion - When Revival Comes I

TOPIC: WHEN REVIVAL COMES I (Friday, August 29, 2014)

MEMORISE: Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? Psalm 85:6

READ: Psalm 85:4-7

4 Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.

5 Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?
7 Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation.

MESSAGE:

In spiritual parlance, revival presupposes that backsliding has hitherto taken place. In other words, it is when people abandon their spiritual fervency that the need for revival becomes inevitable. In Christianity, revival is a term that generally refers to an increased spiritual interest or renewal in the life of a congregation or church, either regionally or globally. This should not be misconstrued with evangelistic meetings that churches conduct to bring about salvation of lost souls. May the Lord revive His church in Jesus’ Name. What happens when revival comes? According to our Bible reading today, people turn away from their wickedness when revival comes. Salvation becomes a household commodity among the backslidden and the anger of God ceases to burn against His people. A typical example of revival is recorded in Jonah 3:4-10 concerning the people of Nineveh. One pleasant thing about God concerning sinners and backsliders is that He will always warn them so that they may repent and escape His fiery judgment. The Bible says:

“But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?” Ezekiel 18:21-23

Another thing that happens when revival comes is that God answers the prayer of sinners contrary to the general opinion that He does not. However, it is the prayer of repentance that God honours before any other, as seen in the case of Manasseh in 2 Chronicles 33:12-13. Revival brings about total restoration of both spiritual and physical wellbeing. The true sign of revival is when people turn completely from their past wicked ways and turn a new leaf of godliness (2 Chronicles 33:15-17). This is contrary to what we experience in the church today where people claim to be born-again and yet still maintain the status quo of their past sinful lives and habits. Manasseh died a repentant sinner and had peace, even at death according to 2 Chronicles 33:18-20. Your beginning may not matter, but how you end is what matters the most.

Prayer Point: If you are a sinner, pray for the salvation of your soul and if you are a backslider, pray for revival and complete restoration.

Time With Christ: Thursday, August 28, daily devotion - Lessons from Rebekah

TOPIC: LESSONS FROM REBEKAH (Thursday, August 28, 2014)

MEMORISE: And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD. Genesis 25:22

READ: Genesis 25:20-23

20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.

21 And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.
23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

MESSAGE:

Rebekah, the wife of Isaac, was temporarily barren and her husband had to intercede for her before God blessed her with the fruit of the womb. She was a Syrian woman who was brought up in her native country. She grew up to know the gods of Syria but was not familiar with the God of Abraham and Isaac. This may be the reason why the Bible did not record anything about her prayers to God but rather recorded the intervention of her husband Isaac who interceded for her. However, what transpired after this reveals that Rebekah later became knowledgeable about God, and she even showed signs of being very spiritual.

After Rebekah became pregnant, she noticed that the babies struggled together within her; they seemed to kick and jostle each other. Their movements prompted her worries and she sought out a prophet to explain the situation to her. Rebekah found herself in a dilemma that no human wisdom could explain. She therefore chose to seek for divine direction from the Lord. Note that this is the very first time the Bible talks about someone making enquiries from the Lord. We should learn two big lessons from Rebekah. We should learn to be sensitive to heavenly signals and seek the face of the living God whenever we need clarification on any matter. Many are in problems today because they were so complacent and carefree that they neglected the warning signals that God gave them until it was too late. Many today also seek for clarifications and directions from the wrong sources, and others patronise gods that cannot give any useful direction.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

Jesus is the Way, He is the Truth and He is the solution to all problems in life. Therefore, seek Jesus today; seek for the King of kings and the Lord or lords; seek for the only One who knows all things and can do all things, and He will give you direction. He will put an end to your confusion and misery. Jesus will quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger. Jesus will heal your broken heart and give you peace in all areas of your life. My friend, Jesus is the answer. Whatever you may be passing through, call upon His name today and your life will never be the same again.

Prayer Point: Jesus the Son of God, I believe in you. As I call upon your name today, please solve all my problems and give me peace.

Read What This 64 Year Old Man From South Africa Who Claims To Have Visited Heaven 4Times Has To Say

This 64-year-old man from South Africa who claims to have visited heaven 4times and trust me his
report would definitely crack your ribs. Funny as it may seem, he narrates his experience in all seriousness.Sibusiso Mthembu says the first time he visited heaven was in 1998 and then in 2004, 2006 and 2008 respectively. According to him, it all started in the year 1993, when a white man (an angel) came to visit him, telling him he was needed in heaven and since then he has visited several times.

He says he is drawing a map to make sure ‘earthlings’ (those who have never gone to heaven before) understand what he is trying to talk about.

Sibusiso Mthembu said there are 11 heavens but the one he was taken to the first time was the 5th heaven known as Crista. Crista has a city called Sharmoy, and that was where he claims to have met Jesus Christ.

He says the main heaven is Salem and that is where God’s temple is located. Sibusiso says God is in his youth, and has a Grayish complexion. Then Jesus Christ is white in complexion.

During his second trip to heaven, he saw God in a planet mostly covered in water and ice and the planet is called Jadalem.

He also said he saw the great men of Bible times like Moses, Elijah, and Abel. He also visited the Marshnode City in heaven, a place where dead people go to reincarnate.

The 64-year-old Sibusiso Mthembu says people who prophesied that the world was coming to an end in May last year were not totally wrong because he eavesdropped a very important meeting held in heaven, where the greatest war against Satan and his disciples were being discussed. He said the war was supposed to begin on May 23.

Sibusiso Mthembu says the map of heaven is not yet ready but that he is very worried that people would start producing counterfeit versions. You can see the map behind him in the photo.

“People must come and see the map as one day someone from Japan or China or Britain will design a map of heaven and the people of South Africa will have forgotten that the map was originally made in South Africa,” he says.

Wow! is this awesome and glorious? God is gray in complexion and Jesus Christ is white. Na wa ooo.

Then the one that baffles me again, is his fear that people would mass produce the map of heaven and forget it was a product of South Africa. Isn’t it supposed to be a tool for reaching out to souls? Does it matter the origin?

Time With Christ: Wednesday, August 27, daily devotion - Reward For Labour

TOPIC: REWARD FOR LABOUR (Wednesday, August 27, 2014)

MEMORISE: And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat. Joshua 24:13

READ: Genesis 31:3-7

3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.
4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,
5 And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.
6 And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.
7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

MESSAGE:

Jacob sojourned with Laban and laboured for him for several years. At first, his host was cheating him at every opportunity, and the years of his hard labour were almost in vain. Down the line, God had to intervene to enable Jacob eat the fruit of his labour. For a reader of this devotional, in every area that you have been deprived of your reward in the hands of your employers or contractors, the Lord will intervene on your behalf in Jesus’ name. It is evil when your sweat serves to increase the wealth of another man without you having any benefit to show for it. After God decided to bless Jacob to redeem the years of his labour under Laban, the sons of Laban and their father conspired against him, believing that he did not deserve the wealth he had earned. When God intervenes in your situation, you will become what the enemy did not think you could ever become. God’s intervention brings reward for labour. This can be manifested in God helping you to set up your own business or company after faithfully serving another for a reasonable length of time. Jacob ran Laban’s business as his own; he was faithful to tending the flocks and the business grew rapidly under his care. Jacob later recognised that although he had served Laban over the years, the man was not eager to grant him independence. May the Lord deliver you from the wisdom and power of those who don’t want you to become your best.

Reward for labour is obtained when the Lord delivers you from the hands of unfaithful business associates. Laban dealt fraudulently with Jacob; at several instances, he changed their business agreement just to make sure that Jacob lost out while he prospered. When the Lord chooses to reward your labour, He will not allow the plans of fraudsters against you to stand. Through fraud, there are many people who have lost their mouth-watering jobs innocently. Some people have been imprisoned for frauds they knew nothing about. Some people have lost millions and billions through fraud; this will never be your experience in Jesus' Name. Also, when the Lord chooses to reward your labour, He will not allow your sincere investment to go in vain. Jacob invested his time, skills and labour into the business between himself and Laban. Reward for your labour comes when God decides to judge between you and those using you for their own advantage. After over 200 years of hard labour in Egypt, God came down to deliver the children of Israel and He gave them a land where they would enjoy the abundance provided by others. May the Lord cause you to enter into an inheritance of rest in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point: Father, grant me reward for all my labour and remember me for good in Jesus’ name.

State Security Services Arrests Nigeria Football chairman, Aminu Maigari

State Security Services, SSS, agents on Tuesday arrested the Chairman of the Nigerian Football
Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari, halting the federation’s meeting scheduled to take place in Abuja. Mr. Maigari was arrested alongside Musa Amadu, the NFF Secretary-General, and Chris Green, a board member. The NFF has been rocked by leadership crisis for months.

The Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Tammy Danagogo, was quoted Monday as saying that the tenure of Mr. Maigari had ended. The embattled NFF chairman was first arrested in July as he returned from the World Cup in Brazil. The arrest followed an order issued by a Plateau State court asking the NFF executives to step aside. Mr. Maigari’s removal as the NFF chairman led to the suspension of Nigeria by world football governing body, FIFA.

The suspension was lifted after Mr. Maigari was reinstated but he was controversially impeached thereafter, accused of financial abuse and corruption. Shortly after the impeachment July 31, Mr. Maigari was again whisked away by SSS operatives from the Serob Legacy Hotel, Abuja where the NFF held a congress. He was again reinstated after the intervention of FIFA.

Liverpool Signs Mario Balotelli For 16 Million Pounds

Liverpool signed Italy striker Mario Balotelli from AC Milan on Monday for a reported 16 million pounds ($26.5 million), taking a calculated gamble on a headline-grabbing player known as much for his controversies as his goals.

Nineteen months after ending a 2½-year spell with Manchester City to play for his boyhood club, Balotelli will return to the English Premier League as a replacement for Luis Suarez — another of world football’s talented but disruptive stars.

“I’m happy to be back because I left England and it was a mistake,” Balotelli said in a Liverpool statement.
“I wanted to go to Italy but I realized it was a mistake.”
Balotelli, who has signed what Liverpool said is a “long-term deal,” has already trained at his new club and will attend the team’s Premier League game against City at Etihad Stadium later Monday. He wasn’t registered in time to play.

Liverpool has been looking to strengthen its strikeforce after selling Suarez to Barcelona for $130 million but left it to the last week of the transfer window to secure one of the summer’s most high-profile and intriguing signings. [AP]

Time With Christ: Tuesday, August 26, daily devotion - Discipleship

TOPIC: DISCIPLESHIP (Tuesday, August 26, 2014)

MEMORISE: And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

READ: Mark 8:34-37

34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

MESSAGE:

At the beginning of the earthly ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, discipleship was a term used to describe the process of building followers who were committed to the cause, teaching and beliefs of our Lord Jesus Christ. It later became a common term used to describe the followers of Jesus. Discipleship is the crux of the Lord’s final address on earth. In this address known as the Great Commission, He charged us to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). Discipleship is not something that happens immediately after salvation, neither is it an optional experience for any Christian. Discipleship, which essentially means following Jesus, is the essence of Christianity.

Discipleship as a Christian experience is a way of life that requires paying a cost (self-denial), and commitment to the cause (taking up one’s cross). These two attributes required of a disciple are clearly stated in many passages of the Bible, specifically Luke 9:23, says:

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

This if further enunciated in Matthew 10:38:

“And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.”

Luke 14:27 stretched the idea even further by saying:

”And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.”

The Bible always speaks of following Jesus in relation to self-denial and the cross. Discipleship is therefore the way of sacrifice.

Paying the cost of discipleship through self-denial and commitment to the cause of Jesus by taking up one’s cross daily are two important requirements of discipleship. By denial of self, Jesus does not mean to deny one's self of something. He means to renounce self; to cease to make self the object of one’s life and actions. This involves a fundamental reorientation of the principle of life. It is to place the divine will before self-will. God, not self, must be at the centre of life. This is something that is especially difficult for the average human being. I pray that as you read this, the Lord will visit you and turn your focus from self and earthly things to God and heavenly things in the Name of Jesus.

Prayer Point: Father, please help me to focus on you alone. Help me to pay the price of discipleship and to be committed to the cause of Jesus all the days of my life.

Why Did God Save The American Doctor And Let 1,200 Africans Die? (Writer Asks)

This is a rather short, thought-provoking article on Ebola as published by the Guardian. It's been raising questions on Social media as the writer,Michele Hanson questions why God 'if he exists' saved Dr Kent and let 1,200 others die?
"Lucky Dr Kent Brantly, the American doctor who has recovered from Ebola, having been given a dose of the experimental antibody serum Zmapp, whizzed home to the US, and given another dose. He is now thanking God for saving his life. Through the medical team and drugs, he admits, but ultimately, it seems, God was in charge. And he chose Brantly, not the other 1,200 mainly west African people who have died horribly, which seems a bit picky.
It must be lovely for Brantly to be so sure of things. I tried, aged 10, to work out whether God was around or not, but couldn't. "What was his actual shape?" I wondered. And how could he be everywhere, all at once? How big, for example, was his toenail? Did it cover Ruislip, where I lived? I imagined him constantly on the go, distant enough for an effective overview and able to home in on catastrophes and act. But it was very hit and miss. Would he be on the spot when you needed him, like Brantly did? On and on I went for years, trying to believe in him. I even went camping with a tremendously religious youth organisation, but despite the prayers and observances, even the devout did some frightfully rude things in their tents. And there was no divine retribution. I gave up on God, for ever.
Millions didn't. They seem to be obeying his instructions to the letter, which isn't doing the world any favours. But at last, a bit of good news. The Jehovah's Witnesses are mellowing. They havea new tactic. Instead of just knocking on doors, they're also allowed to stand beside their literature, smiling, near shops and stations, letting us approach voluntarily. Marvellous. It's a shame they didn't do this years ago, when my old friend was a Jehovah's Witness. She was terrified sick of being sent to knock on our door. Luckily it never happened.
If only all religions would take this hands-off approach and let us all believe whatever we like. No pressure. I hope that one day, that will happen. I would say "Please, God," but I can't.

Time With Christ: Monday, August 25, daily devotion - What Seek Ye?

TOPIC: WHAT SEEK YE? (Monday, August 25, 2014)

MEMORISE: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

READ: Luke 12:29-31

29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

MESSAGE:

In most 21st century societies, the hustle for survival is the preoccupation of many families and individuals living below the poverty line, while fashion, entertainment, lavish spending and accumulation of state-of-the-art technology are the concern of those that are well-off. The lifestyle of many, and ultimately what they pursue in life, is driven by their philosophy of life and the economic class they belong to. Many people seek wealth, fame, power etc, and they would do anything including participating in heinous crimes to achieve their goal. However, the Bible in Matthew 6:31-32 says that God knows we have need for food, clothes and accommodation:

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.”

The Bible also says in Proverbs 10:22 that the Lord is able to bless His own:

“The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”

Since the Lord is able to bless and prosper His children without them engaging in illicit activities, it is therefore not befitting for a Christian to participate in the same crazy pursuit for material things prevalent in the world today.

Furthermore, the word of God in 1 Timothy 6:9-10 says:

“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Evidently, those who want to be rich at all costs usually fall into diverse temptations and traps of the devil. Out of desperation to be rich, they are easily drawn into sinful acts in the form of questionable businesses, partnership with dubious characters and dealings in substandard and harmful products. The question therefore is: what do you seek? What are you running after? Be warned that what you seek determines what you get. Seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness; seek the Lord Jesus with all your heart and He will surprise you with joy, peace, prosperity and a host of other heavenly blessings that money cannot buy.

Prayer Point: Father, please give me the grace to seek your kingdom and righteousness with all my heart, with all my soul and with all my might, in the Name of Jesus.

Read Why T.B Joshua Is Nigeria’s Most Internationally Recognized Celebrity

Yesterday, I stumbled upon the list put together by an African blogger chronicling Nigeria’s most internationally known celebrities. Intriguingly, the name sitting at the pinnacle of the pack of film stars and musicians was a Christian pastor who seldom leaves Nigerian shores.

Above the likes of musicians D’Banj, P Square, Wizkid, Flavour, 2Face and Nollywood legends Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Ekeinde and Ramsey Noah Jr, the controversial Pastor T.B. Joshua was ranked as Nigeria’s most popular international icon.
The question begs – is this just a bloggers personal opinion masked perhaps under an impressionable meeting with Joshua or is it a true reflection of international outlook toward Africa’s most populous nation.
Although the likes of D’banj, 2face and PSquare regularly have sell out concerts in foreign countries, none have neared the feat Joshua accomplished last month when he packed an Olympic Stadium in the South American nation of Colombia, a reported 100,000 in attendance.
Well, a quick look at the facts certainly gravitates towards the latter conclusion. Social media stats put Joshua near the top of the pack with nearly 1.3 million Facebook followers, bettered only by Omosexy who

has over 1.6 million. The other celebs on this list to have topped the million margin are P-Square with 1.1 million and D’Banj with 1 million.

Joshua’s international acclaim is certainly evident in Nigeria’s tourism industry, recent statistics from the Nigerian Immigration Service stating that six out of every ten foreign travellers coming into Nigeria are bound for The Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).
Even the recent threat of Ebola and the menace of Boko Haram have not stemmed the tide of international visitors to Joshua’s ministry, an estimated 10,000 having flown into Lagos to meet ‘the prophet’ in the last month.
When it comes to headline-making activities, it appears the Nigerian pastor is a hands-down winner. This week alone, Joshua has featured in newspapers from UK, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, France, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Namibia and even China (to name but a few) in respect of his unique response to the deadly Ebola outbreak.
Followers of online blogs, particularly within Africa, are inundated almost daily with T.B. Joshua related news, more than any of the other celebrities chronicled in this piece. The controversy surrounding his persona is further mirrored in the comments sections of such articles which often turn to heated debates over authenticity and relevance.
Malicious messages sent through social media gain untold momentum when attributed to Joshua, the alleged ‘salt-water’ Ebola cure that swept across Nigeria being a recent example. There was even a time when nationwide panic ensued among 2go users due to a purported message ascribed to Joshua that calamity awaited users of the popular service.
Although the likes of D’banj, 2face and PSquare regularly have sell out concerts in foreign countries, none have neared the feat Joshua accomplished last month when he packed an Olympic Stadium in the South American nation of Colombia, a reported 100,000 in attendance.
Joshua’s television station Emmanuel TV has been touted severally to be among the most viewed stations in the African continent as the name ‘T.B. Joshua’ has become increasingly synonymous with the nation of Nigeria in the eyes of onlookers.
As a Nigerian who travels frequently throughout Africa, I can affirm that the question most commonly asked me once Nigerian nationality is established revolves around the popular pastor and his ‘supernatural’ antics.
Although it is practically impossible to gauge exact levels of popularity, I think it is safe to say that the bearded cleric certainly ranks in the upper echelons of Nigeria’s international flag bearers – and there seems to be no signs of his influence waning.
Here is the list as opined by the aforementioned blogger:

1. Pastor T.B. Joshua
2. 2Face Idibia
3. Flavour
4. Wizkid
5. Ramsey Noah Jr
6. P-Square
7. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
8. Genevieve Nnaji
9. D’Banj

Do you agree with this list? Is anyone missing? In your opinion, who is Nigeria’s most internationally recognised celebrity?

Footballer Dies After Being Hit By Missile Thrown from Crowd (Pictured)

Albert Ebossé, a striker from Cameroon, has died after being hit in the head by an object thrown from the crowd at the end of a top-flight Algerian league game on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was struck by a projectile, thrown by fans in the stands, as he and fellow teammates returned to their changing room. His team, JS Kabylie, had just lost their game against USM Alger in Tizi Ouzou 2-1. The lone goal for JS Kabylie was scored by late Albert Ebossé. Albert was rushed to
the hospital but he lost his life.

Ebosse played for Coton Sport FC, Unisport Bafang and Douala AC in his homeland before moving to Malaysian club Perak FA in 2012. He signed for JS Kabylie in July 2013 and was best scorer in the 2013-2014 championship.

Reports say he recently welcomed a baby. However, the Algerian interior ministry has ordered an investigation to search for the culprit.

Fani Kayode Claims There Is An 'Illuminati Connected To Ebola

In a write-up titled, “A Virus Called Ebola and the Secret Club From Hell” (Premium Times, August 17, 2014) I wrote that Patrick Sawyer, the American/ Liberian who brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria “was an evil man with an evil intention and purpose’’. I went further by writing that, ‘’worst still he was not working alone. Some people, and I mean rich, powerful and well-connected people, were working with him. As a matter of fact, they sent him on the mission’’.

I stand by those words and I maintain, as I argued in that essay, that there is an “Illuminati’’ connection to the whole Ebola episode. I urge those that are skeptical about this and that have not read that write-up to google it and do so. This short contribution is something of an addendum to that essay. I was compelled to write it for two reasons. Firstly, because the sheer depth, complexity and audacity of the conspiracy is so utterly appalling and mind-boggling that I believe a little more detail is required to make the case. Secondly, because Nigeria has just lost a woman of substance and one of her brightest and best, who happens to be a medical practitioner, to the Ebola virus as a direct consequence of Sawyer’s sinister and nefarious activities.

Those who refuse to accept the fact that there is a hidden agenda unfolding here and that refuse to believe that there is a mysterious and diabolical force working behind the scenes ought to attempt to explain to us why it was that the Liberian deputy finance minister, Mr. Sebastian Omar, gave Sawyer permission to travel to Nigeria though he knew that he was infected with Ebola and though he knew that his sister had just died from the same disease. Sawyer was an ECOWAS official who had sought permission to travel to Nigeria for an ECOWAS summit. He knew that he had ebola and according to his wife’s testimony he avoided contact with as many people as possible in Liberia before he came to Nigeria. Yet, when he got to Nigeria, he told the medical authorities that he simply had a fever and attempted to hide the fact that he had a highly contagious terminal disease which was capable of spreading throughout our nation and killing as many people as the infamous and dreaded bubonic plague that wiped out 60 per cent of Europe’s population between 1,346 and 1,363. Those that doubt this thesis should explain away the contradictions and inexplicable behavior of this strange and demented Liberian whose string was obviously being pulled from elsewhere.
Worse still, they ought to explain to us why it was that after the demon landed in our shores, after the affliction was unleashed, after the damage had been done and after a number of our people have been infected with the virus as a consequence of their direct interaction with Sawyer, why the Liberian minister boastfully and arrogantly told the world that he “refused to apologize to Nigeria’’ for his error of judgement even though that error had led to panic, fear, disease and numerous deaths in our country.

What a beast of a Minister this horrible little man called Sebastian Omar is. His words are not only unacceptable but they are also utterly outrageous. He is a harbinger of death and destruction and he ought to be held directly responsible for the evil and tragedy that has befallen our people. How I wish that the Federal Government and specifically our Minister of Health and Minister of Foreign Affairs had mustered the courage to give him an earful for his sheer insensitivity and wickedness.

The truth is that Sawyer, with the full backing of those that sent him, arrived in Nigeria with a clear understanding about what he intended to do. His deadly mission was simple and clear. Had it not been for the efforts of a very brave woman by the name of Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh, who refused to release him from the hospital in which he had been admitted, despite the enormous pressure that was brought to bear upon her to do so by the Liberian Ambassador and a few Nigerians in high places, Sawyer would have spread the virus, with it’s lethal package of death, to many other people in Lagos.

This would undoubtedly have resulted in an uncontrollable and deadly epidemic and many lives would have been lost. Worse still, this terrible plague would have also ended up in Calabar which was Sawyer’s ultimate destination. I suspect that after spreading his deadly load in Calabar, he would also have touched Abuja as well. That way he would have ‘’covered’’ and ‘’treated’’ both of Nigeria’s two old capital cities and the new in a spectacular triangle and pyramid of death. What better way to effect his purpose? If he had succeeded in this monstrous venture, Nigeria would have never been the same again.
Sawyer’s behaviour at the hospital was instructive and revealing. When he was told that he would not
be allowed to leave, in a fit of rage and frustration, he removed the drip that was used to transfuse blood into his veins and sprayed his blood all over Adadevoh and some of her nursing staff. He also poured his urine all over them. Such was his resolve to conclude his mission and kill as many Nigerians as possible. The only thing that stood in his way and stopped him from achieving it was the due diligence and professionalism of the First Consultants Hospital where he was admitted and where he was diagnosed as having Ebola and the sheer courage, determination, fortitude and pure spirit of Dr. Adadevoh who understood the implications of releasing him and who stood her ground and refused to do so.

By that single act alone this noble lady saved the lives of thousands of Nigerians. Unlike others in her profession she did not go on strike, she did not abandon her post and she did not desert her staff, her hospital or her patients. I sincerely hope that she will be honored by the Nigerian people and by our government for her efforts and her gallant contribution. I am not in the least bit surprised by the remarkable role she played simply because she comes from excellent stock and she is the product of a noble and illustrious lineage.

Sadly, Ameyo Adedovoh paid for her courage and fortitude with her life because she contracted the virus from Sawyer and she died a couple of weeks later. This was a lady of class and distinction and it reflected in all that she did till the very end. This explains why it was that when she discovered that she had been infected with the virus she insisted on keeping herself in total isolation in her home so that she would not infect anyone else until she contacted the officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Health and they came to pick her up. Right up until the end she was thinking about the safety of others rather than herself.
Such commitment, valour and fortitude is rarely seen. The truth is that she gave her life so that others may live. If there was ever a Nigerian heroine that was worthy of adulation and adoration, it was this deeply courageous and selfless lady. In her, her family members and son have everything to be proud of and so do the Nigerian people. I join millions of others in praying that her beautiful and noble soul rests in perfect peace as she joins her illustrious forefathers in the great beyond.

Permit me to take this opportunity to also commend the courage of Justina Obi Ejelonu who was a junior colleague of Adadevoh at First Consultants and who had helped to check Sawyer in and place him in proper care the day that he was brought to the hospital from Murtala Mohammed Airport with a fever. Like Ameyo Adadevoh, Justina Obi Ejelonu has since passed away as a result of being infected by Sawyer with the ebola virus. There are no words to describe the courage and the great sacrifice that these two ladies have made for their fatherland and for their people. May they and all that is their’s be blessed from generation to generation.

Christians Are Not The Light of the World By Femi Aribisala

Christians today are the people who betray Jesus; but with a kiss.

A blogger became so exasperated with my criticism of the Christian Church; he decided to launch what would be the definitive counter-attack. “Femi Aribisala,” he declared triumphantly, “is not a Christian!” When I thought about this, I concluded that, using the same logic, the prophets of Israel were not Israelites.

This is God’s mandate for his prophets: “Cry aloud, spare not; lift up your voice like a trumpet; tell my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” (Isaiah 58:1). Those who had a problem with this killed the prophets. I have been killed time-and-again by Christians; but the Lord always raises me from the dead.

If my criticism of apostate Christianity disqualifies me as a Christian, then most Nigerians can no longer be Nigerians. Indeed, where two or three Nigerians are gathered, you can be sure we are busy criticising our dear country. However, Nigerians criticise Nigeria because we are Nigerians and not because we are not.

Jesus says: “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.” (Revelation 3:19).

Sheepish wolves
Who exactly is a Christian? Paul says: “They are not all Israel who are of Israel.” (Romans 9:6). By the same token, they are not all Christians who are Christians. All Christians profess belief in Jesus. But most Christians do not follow his doctrine. Many do not even know what Jesus’ doctrine entails. When you tell them, they shout: “Heresy!”

Using Paul’s erroneous standards, many Christians define a Christian as someone who believes in Jesus. However, some Jews who professed belief in Jesus turned out to be sons of the devil. (John 8:31/44). Jesus did not say his followers will be identified by their hypocrisy and grand-standing. Instead, he says: “You will know them by what they do.” (Matthew 7:16).

When some Jews insisted they were sons of Abraham, Jesus said to them: “If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing what Abraham did.” (John 8:39). Spiritual sons must do the works of their father, and not merely profess his faith. However, Christians profess the faith of Jesus but disdain God’s ways.

Satanic evangelism
Several years ago, a Christian acquaintance with a common law wife and three daughters literally disappeared. His family did not hear from him for three years. When he finally showed up just as suddenly as he had left, I button-holed him and asked where he had been all this long while; in utter neglect of his family.

His response threw me for a loop. “Evangelism!” he declared exuberantly, “evangelism!” “What do you mean?” I wondered. “I have been doing evangelism,” he replied, smiling mischievously at me. So I asked him: “What kind of evangelism are you doing that precludes taking care of your family?”

That man’s perspective is symptomatic of a general Christian malaise. We try to bring people to Christ through preaching that contradicts the life we live. But Jesus warns: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21).

Christians are pompous “fishers of men.” We tell men: “Today might be the last day of the rest of your life. Accept Jesus before it is too late.” But we don’t live like people preoccupied with eternal life. We have heard of Jesus but don’t know him. We have read about him but don’t follow him. We talk the highfalutin talk and walk the hypocritical walk.

Living faith
Jesus is very contemptuous of our kind of evangelism-driven faith. He says: “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.” (Matthew 23:15).

John says of Jesus: “Eternal life is in him, and this life gives light to all mankind.” (John 1:4). It is the exemplary life of Jesus that makes him the light of men. In his light, we see light. (Psalm 36:9). But Christians are not particularly interested in the life of Jesus. We only take refuge in self-serving principles about his allegedly vicarious death. Instead of being preoccupied with the godly life Jesus lived; we sing and dance about the death he died.

Jesus says: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10). The life Jesus gives comes from his life. It does not come from his death. Jesus says: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6). The way, the truth and the life do not come from Jesus’ death; they come from practical details of the virtuous life Jesus lived and taught.

Light of the World
Jesus says to his disciples: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16).

The light of the world is not about the faith of Christians. It is about our works. But one thing is certain: Christians today are not known for our works. I know no one that defines a Christian as a righteous person. As a matter of fact, Christians would rather be the rich of the world than the light of the world. However, the rich man who flies around in a jet-plane like Oritsejafor and Adeboye cannot be the light of this world. At best, he is the envy of the world.

Light is not a friend, but an adversary, of darkness. Light dispels darkness because it is implacably opposed to it. But Christians are not fundamentally different from non-Christians. We have the same values and seek the same worldly objects. Such differentials as exist are inconsequential. We go to church, read the bible, quote some scriptures, and pray “in the name of Jesus.” But these are dead religious rituals. They don’t make us the light of the world.

Christians don’t even know what Jesus expects us to be. We don’t because we are not who we are supposed to be. Jesus does not say his disciples should be the light of the world. He says they are the light of the world. We either are or we are not; and the truth is that Christians today are not. Indeed, we are any but. There is one way to describe the Christians of today: we are the people who betray Jesus; but with a kiss.

Christians display few good works before men. We are not known as people of integrity who, like Jesus, are loving, gracious, compassionate, merciful and forgiving. We vehemently decry the Boko Haram but are rabid Boko Haramites in speech and prayer. We claim to be followers of Jesus but despise his righteous ways. We are only deceiving ourselves.

Jesus warns: “If the light you think you have is really darkness, how deep that darkness will be!” (Matthew 6:23).

Time With Christ: Sunday, August 24, daily devotion - The Materialist’s Mistake

TOPIC: THE MATERIALIST’S MISTAKE (Sunday, August 24, 2014)

MEMORISE: And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12:15

READ: Psalm 49:6-10

6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
9 That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

MESSAGE:

The materialist is somebody with great regard for material possessions, a person who considers material possessions and physical comfort more important than spiritual values. To a materialist, the end justifies whatever means is employed in acquiring wealth or possessions. Materialists would cheat, steal, hurt fellow human beings and even kick against God’s commandments in order to amass wealth and get great possessions.

One irrational and foolish confidence that is often displayed concerning earthly wealth and possessions is exposed in Psalm 49:9. This scripture reveals that those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches always hope to live forever and expect to be secure from sickness, sorrow, pain, oppression, accidents and disaster. The Bible teaches that this wrong attitude to wealth and prosperity robs a person of his or her dignity and degrades such persons to the level of beasts. The Bible also teaches that there are limits to the purchasing power of wealth, especially when it comes to the deeper demands of the soul, where financial wealth has no relevance.

Another irrational and foolish miscalculation of human philosophy is that a person’s worth is summed up in his or her earthly wealth and possessions. Based on this wrong assumption, materialists seek to acquire wealth and possessions at all costs and by all means. Meanwhile, the Bible in Luke 12:15 tells us that the worth of a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses. The idea that wealth has value for a person beyond the grave is a mistake. This is why the Lord asked these questions in Mark 8:36-37:

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

We must give truthful answers to these questions in order to avoid committing the mistakes of the materialist. If you acquire a world full of wealth and possessions and lose your soul, what will you offer in exchange for your soul? Be wise! The truth is already revealed in the word of God; poverty is bad, wealth is good, but you must not pursue wealth and possessions in a way that will make you lose your soul.

Prayer Point: Father, please help me to set my priorities in line with the word of God. Let my precious soul make it to heaven.

Woman Tells Court The Reason Why She Sleeps With Knife By Her Bedside (Read)

A woman, Suliat Onakoya, on Monday, August 18 urged the Customary Court, Agege, to dissolve her marriage to Waheed Onakoya over threat to her life.

Suliat told the court saying: “This is the second year he left home and I have been responsible for our rent. Each time he comes home, he would always threaten to beat me to death if I don’t leave his house. He told the landlord to eject me, but he couldn’t because I don’t owe him.
“I sleep with a knife because I am afraid he may attack me at night. I was hinted by my co-tenants that he beat his previous wife to a coma. He beats me over trivial issues. I don’t love him anymore; I want a dissolution,” she pleaded.
Mr. Onakoya, however denied his wife’s allegation saying:
“I work in a neighboring state; I only come home at weekends. Painfully, I once caught my wife with another man in our room. She enjoys listening to gossips. However, I love her and still want to be part of her.”
The court president, Mr Philip Williams, advised the parties to maintain peace and urged Suliat to stop sleeping with a knife.
He fixed a medication session for the couple and ordered each of them to bring two relations.
The case was adjourned till September 11 by the court president.

Luis Suarez Promises Not To Bite Again

Luis Suarez, who made his debut for the Catalans in a 6-0 friendly win over Mexican side Club Leon on Monday has promised Barcelona fans that he will never bite again, assuring them not to be worried.
“I say to all the fans, don’t worry, because I won’t do that anymore” Suarez said.
The new Barcelona striker, who revealed that he has received professional help after receiving a four-month ban for biting an opponent for the third time in his career when he clashed with an Italian opponent Giorgio Chiellini at the just concluded Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He further disclosed that he was concerned for his future and depressed because of FIFA’s decision.
The Uruguayan, who was unveiled yesterday by Barca after been delayed for over five weeks after his transfer from Liverpool due to his latest suspension will still not be able to play a competitive game for the Catalans until late October after his appeal against the ban was thrown out by the Court of Arbitration for Sport last week.

Suarez, at 27 has accumulated three multi-match suspensions for biting an opponent as well as for racist remarks.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Suarez is making a promise not to bite again as he had previously made the same vow after his ban was lifted for biting PSV’s Otman Bakkel and Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, before committing the same offense again at the World Cup in Brazil.
It would be recalled that Barcelona after signing Suarez, told him he will see his £10million-a-year (about N3billion) Barcelona pay packet slashed by up to £3m (N830,000,000) if he tries to bite another opponent.

Stephen Keshi May Not Return As Super Eagles Coach

After his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expired, Stephen Keshi told reporters that he is looking forward to going back to his family and facing fresh challenges.

It was later reported that the NFF was in talks with him on coming back at the coach of the national football team. Keshi’s alleged demand was better pay and a few additions to continue as coach.

He was previously paid $30,000 a month.

We have been waiting to hear the news that he is back, but nothing yet.

It could be because of the recent drama in the NFF which saw Aminu Maigariimpeached as President and later reinstated, as well as the recent fire outbreak at the head office in Abuja.

Whatever the delay is, Stephen is done waiting.

In a chat with the BBC Sports, he says “I have moved on. I can only wish the country well for the future.”

The 52-year-old added that;
“I’ve had about seven countries approach me in the last two months but I kept them all away.
There’s a game in two weeks (Nations Cup qualifier against Congo) but no-one is thinking about it and at the same time they expect you to win.
I understand the ongoing crisis facing the federation but the national team should not suffer from such at this crucial stage.
Sadly, I also think attention is focused more on the upcoming NFF elections and the national team is simply not a priority.
I love my country and I am aware of the dream our fans had of me taking this team to the next level.
While acknowledging the efforts of some people involved in the negotiation, I think others probably have other important things to do.”

Time With Christ: Saturday, August 23, daily devotion - Failure Is Expensive

TOPIC: FAILURE IS EXPENSIVE (Saturday, August 23, 2014)

MEMORISE: For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. Hebrew 12:17
READ: Hebrew 12:9-12

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

MESSAGE:

Failure is defined as lack of success in a set objective or a loss of ability to function normally. Failure occurs when an event doesn’t accomplish its intended purpose. Failure usually ends up as a double tragedy because when a project fails, you lose your investment on the project and afterwards you must pay for the future repercussions of that failure. In most cases, the repercussions of failure are far-reaching and irreversible. With this perspective, it is clear that failure is something of inestimable loss. However, failure always disguises itself as a normal everyday event. If you carelessly give your consent without discernment, such a seemingly normal event may develop into a serious tragedy. So it was when Sarah innocently offered her maid to Abraham to conceive a child in Genesis 16:3, and when Jacob suggested to his brother Esau to trade his birthright for pottage in Genesis 25:31. These are examples of ordinary events that resulted into terrible tragedies. I pray that you will not commit any blunder that will lead to terrible tragedies in your life in Jesus’ Name.

What started as a generous gift of love later developed into something that brought grief to Abraham in Genesis 21:11. Having to separate from his son was painful and as the father of Isaac (Jews) and Ishmael (Arabs), we can see that the outcome of Abraham’s failure is far-reaching and irreversible as evident in the Arab-Israeli relationship today. When you consider Esau’s reaction to Jacob’s proposal, you will immediately see that he trivialised the matter. He later paid dearly for his miscalculation in his lifetime and his descendants are still paying for his careless mistake till date. Father Lord, please have mercy, and let your mercy prevail over every evil judgment and repercussion of sin and failure in our lives in the Name of Jesus!

We can see from the above cases that the immediate cost of failure is expensive and the future repercussions inestimable. You cannot afford to suffer the loss of failure, therefore you must do everything in your power to prevent and avoid it. First, you must view everything in life according to the Bible and submit totally to its authority. You must also ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all things. The fear of God and complete obedience to His commandments is the sure antidote to failure. May you never experience failure again in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, let every past mistake that could lead to terrible tragedies in my life be cancelled today by divine intervention, in the Name of Jesus.
