Women, Youth Protest Governor El-Rufai’s Appointment Of Non Indigene (Photo)

Angry Gbagyi women and youth from Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, northwest Nigeria, Monday blocked major roads leading to headquaters of the local government secretariat over appointment of a non Gbagyi as council boss.

The youth trooped out en masse to protest the nomination of Hajiya Hadiza Yahuza who was screened last week Friday by Kaduna State House of Assembly for the position of Interim Management Committee chairman of the local government council,Pm news reports.

They accused the State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of marginalisation and injustice against the people of Chikun LG who are predominantly Gbagyi.

State Chairman of Gbagyi youths, Amos Isah, told journalists that the executive members of group had last week visited the member representing Chikun Constituency at Kaduna State House of Assembly, Markus Zarmai Yari, at his residence and demanded explanation for what they described as a “slap” on their faces.

According to him, El-Rufai messed up Gbagyi while he was FCT Minister in Abuja and he is today here as governor doing same to the Gbagyi in Kaduna.

“This we will resist vehemently,” Isah said. He pointed out that the governor’ s appointment of a non Gbagyi in the area dominated by Gbagyis is unacceptable.

At the time of filing this report, policemen have deployed to the troubled area to disperse the angry youths.

An eye witnesses, Habila Shok, told P.M.NEWS that some persons sustained severe injuries during the clash with the police.

Although the area has temporarily been cleared by the police, tension still pervades the air.
