Nigerian Military Relocated Officially To Maiduguri

Following the president's orders, Nigerian military has reportedly relocated command and control centre to Borno state capital, Maiduguri, the epicentre of Boko Haram terrorism.

The army followed the directives from newly elected President Muhammdu Buhari. Colonel Sani Usman, military spokesperson revealed this in a statement, BBC reports.
He said: “The team has already commenced work in earnest,” continuing that all senior military officials will relocate to the North East.
The military top personnel was blamed for being detached from the reality on the frontline, leading to slow and ill-informed decision-making, so the relocation to Maiduguri might fix that problem.

Buhari had in his first directive as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, ordered the move of the command centre from the service headquarters in Abuja to Maiduguri, in order to bring the insurgency to a quick and decisive end.

Meanwhile, the directive has been received with a degree of skepticism by some retired and mostly serving senior officers in the army who were of the opinion that such a move could ricochet, continuing that it was neither strategic nor had a historical priority.

Those who agreed with the president’s decision considered it as part a move to curry favours from the new administration.
One senior officer who was not excited with the decision, said: “That directive is capable of dampening the whole operations. It only reinforces the notion that he (Buhari’s) is not completely in the picture on the current military arrangement
