Appeal Court Dismisses Agbaje's Petition Against Ambode - Fines Agbaje Instead (Read Why)

Agbaje and Ambode
Barely one month after the tribunal sitting in Ikeja, struck out the petition filed by Mr Jimi Agbaje, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, further upheld the declaration of Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in the State.

The appellate court struck out the petition by Agbaje, who emerged second the said election, for incompetence. Agbaje was also ordered to pay a sum of N50,000 each to the four respondents in the suit, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, APC, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner.

Meanwhile, the Lagos PDP has described the judgement of the appellate court as a controversial legal victory and not a moral victory for the APC and governor Ambode, adding that the option of heading to the Supreme court should not be ruled out.
