Presidency Reacts To Accusation Of Being Involved In Ekweremadu’s Travails

The Presidency has called on all involved in the current scandal involving the Deputy Senate President, Sen Ike Ekweremadu in which he has been accused of forging the Senate rules – to count it out of the lawmakers travails.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, who made the position known, said President Muhammadu Buhari will never orchestrate any unconstitutional or underhand deal against anybody.

Speaking on Kakaaki, an early morning program on Africa Independent Television (AIT), yesterday, Adesina swore that the president, as he knows him, will not subvert the rules of the legislative arm of government.

“You do not know this President. This president will not orchestrate anything. Anything that is unconstitutional or amount to an under-hand deal, this President will not orchestrate it.

“[He is] straight-forward, plain and decent. Maybe that was what he expected everybody to do. He didn’t think anybody was going to subvert the process. That is why the National Assembly is where it is, but [there is] no orchestration.

“This is not a President that will subvert the rules in any form. He expected everyone toplay straight; unfortunately, it did not happen that way and we have what we have now.”

Adesina explained that Buhari will take his time to build strong institutions that will endure, advising Nigerians not to expect the president to “perform magic” in addressing the problems bedeviling the country.
