Senator Bukola Saraki immediately after emerging victorious as senate president in controversial circumstances, his first courtesy visit was the home of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on a “courtesy visit”.
Nigeria’s former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A senate president paying an immediate courtesy visit to a chieftain of his party and not the party’s officially designated leaders sure raised some eyebrows.
We observed what a few people think, and there are insinuations in some quarters that Saraki’s defiance of the APC leadership’s instruction not to contest for the position of senate president had the backing of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
It will be recalled that Atiku and Saraki were the major leaders of the ‘New PDP’, a faction of the People’s Democratic Party that moved into the APC in 2014 after efforts to resolve the crisis in the PDP failed at the time.
