Road Accident In Calabar Claims About 11 Lives (Pictured)

Eleven persons were confirmed dead, yesterday, at Biase, Southern District of Cross River State, as a 13-seater commuter bus and a truck had a head-on collision on Calabar-Ikom Road.

The bus, which belongs to a popular auto company, Romchi, had on board 13 passengers, traveling to Ogoja in the northern part of the state from Calabar, when it ran into the truck. It was attempting to overtake another vehicle on a bend in the road at Biase.

An eyewitness said that all the passengers in the bus were crushed, some beyond recognition.

He said only the driver and another young man seated in front with the driver came out alive.

The eyewitness said: “Many children, along with their parents, died in the accident and we had to use axes to cut off some part of the bus before we could bring them out.”

He said none of the deceased persons had been identified, adding that it was the survivor that said the vehicle was on its way to Ogoja after taking passengers at its park along Eta Agbo Road, near the University of Calabar.

Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Samuel Ndumelo, could not be reached for comments.

Police Public Relations Officer for the Cross River State command, Mr. Hogan Bassey, said he was yet to receive information on the accident.

  4. Buh all of una never examine dis story well o! D report claims that d driver and another person in front were d only survivors. My question therefore is; how can a bus have a head on collision with a trailer and d two people in front who are supposed to be d 1st ones to be crushed survived. So, its either d reportage is wrong or d story is entire false. Hmmm! "uwaifo don talk e own o".
