Senator Bukola Saraki of the All Peoples Congress (APC), has been sworn in as the Senate President after being elected unopposed by 57 out of 108 senators-elect.
51 senators, including major contender Senator Ahmed Lawan were not present as of 10:30 a.m. when Saraki was returned as elected. Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was elected Deputy Speaker. Nigerians took to twitter to react to the electoral process. See tweets below;
