Prices Of Food Items Hits The Sky!

Prices of food are rising steadily in the market. According to traders, the rise is due to a combination of the scarcity and hike in the prices of petroleum products across the country.

Some traders said, the hike in the prices of the food items is seasonal, some others attributed the situation on the activities of insurgents in the North where these items are brought from, while others attributed it to high cost of transportation, extra charges at the depot and shortage in supply of the goods.

Visit to market revealed that prices of food items especially, tomato, pepper, melon, yam, crayfish have increased by over 100%.

Restaurant owners have continued to lament the hike in the prices of food items, in particular tomato and pepper, saying it was affecting their business as customers were not willing to pay more money than they had been paying before, for the same plate of food.
