The president also enjoined the international community, especially African leaders, to lend support to Buhari so as to help his administration succeed.
He called on African leaders to show the incoming administration the same warmth and solidarity they showed him.“The incoming government will need the cooperation and commitment of the global community and Nigerians to effectively deliver on its promises to the people”, the president’s statement issued by Dr. Reuben Abati, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity read.
Speaking on the crucial role he played to foster peace in Africa during his regime, he said he worked tirelessly with other African leaders to ensure that Africa was free of crisis.
Highlighting some of his efforts he said: I have been involved in solving many problems in African countries for more than five years and I know the enormity and cost of conflicts, especially on the citizenry. We cannot afford that in Nigeria.”
On his decision to concede defeat after the March 28 presidential election, he said his gesture was to show an example to the world that democracy in Africa could be free of conflict.
He also urged African leaders to desist from holding on to power indefinitely, noting that such ambitions could make room for conflicts.
