Governor Obiano React To Reports That He Wants To Decamp To APC After Visiting General Buhari

Anambra State governor, Willy Obiano yesterday held a brief meeting with the President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari. He however dispelled the insinuation that the visit was part of plans to join the All Progressives Congress(APC). He vowed to remain in the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

The visit which was at Gen Buhari’s Abuja home came a day after the Senate President and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Senator David Mark paid similar visit to the President-elect.

Addressing newsmen after the closed door meeting with Buhari, Obiano explained that:
“Well, I came to congratulate His excellency the President -elect on his victory and I am also here to reassure him that Anambra and the South East would support him. I also pleaded with him on some pressing problems that are of importance to the South East like the second Niger bridge and some of the federal roads. We also pleaded in the area of appointment for the people of Anambra and of course for people from the South East be it ministerial, ambassadorial and what have you. So, basically it is to congratulate the president elect on his well deserved victory.”
Asked if the visit had anything to do with his rumored plans to defect to APC, the governor said;
“Well I am a very focused governor. Under my tenure I brought change in the area of security in Anambra and I will always support things that would bring change to improve the well-being of Ndi Anambra and Nigeria as a whole.”
On whether he is in touch with APC leaders from the South East concerning appointments for people of the South east, he answered in the affirmative .
“Yes, most of them have actually paid a courtesy call on me and yes we are talking and I suspect that the President is not going to give appointment to only people from his party because everybody would support him and so he has to consider people from other parties so that we can all embrace the change”, he said.
He faulted the speculation that he was planning to dump APGA for APC. He said “It is not correct. I will remain with APGA and work very closely with Mr president.”
