The incident happened on Monday, March 23, 2015 along Clem Road, Jankara, Ojokoro area of Lagos.The driver of the car, one Ibrahim Zakari, eyewitnesses told Sun, rushed the victim to a private hospital in the area but the hospital management rejected the victim.
“I think he was told to go and get police report or something like that. I am not sure of what made them reject the man but the hospital did not admit him,” he said.
The driver of the car was said to have rushed the victim to Ojokoro Police Station where he was provided an escort to take the deceased to Ahmadiya Hospital.
Sunday Sun, however, gathered that the victim was pronounced dead at the second hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car was on Wednesday, March 25, arraigned before an Ojokoro Senior Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs. T Akani on a two count charge.
The charge read, “that you Ibrahim Zakari ‘M’ on 23rd day of March, 2015 at 06.30 at Clem Road, Jankara drove a CRV Jeep with registration number LSD 885 DC in a manner without due care for other road users and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 28 of R.T.A Cap 172 Vol. 17 Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria 1994.
“That you Ibrahim Zakari ‘M’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magistrate district being the driver in charge of the Honda CRV Jeep drove the same in a dangerous manner and caused the death of one Wisdom Okafor thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 27 of R.T.A Cap 548 Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to both charges.He was granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
A police source however informed Sun that the two persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged attempted attack which led to the accident that claimed the deceased’s life.
But yet if he was driving with stipulated speed limit for street roads it won't hv been this worse.....so unfortunate...may his soul rest in peace...that ideaolgy of getting a police reports needs to b revisited by both medical council n d police....
