Police Commissioner, Mr Clement Aduda, told journalists yesterday in Maiduguri that the 147 bombs known as Cluster Ordinances (UXOS) were discovered in a house in the capital and at Sumo village, few kilometres from Maiduguri where insurgents had launched a daring attack on the city on January 25 this year.
He said the second bomb cache was discovered in a boy’s quarters of a house belonging to a senior Federal Government official in the city, adding that the police were alerted by spirited and vigilant residents. “I am glad to inform you that at about 9 am on February 8, 2015, 147 unexploded Cluster Ordinances (UXOS) were recovered at about two kilometers away from Sumo village, near Jakarna, Konduga Local Government in Borno State by a combined team of Bomb Disposal Unit, policemen with troops attached to Jarkana general area.”
The police boss said the explosives have been destroyed “in good time without injuries or damage to lives and property.” He said the unexploded ordinance (UXOS) were suspected to have been kept by Boko Haram for the February 1 attack on Maiduguri.
He urged the people to always alert the security agencies whenever they discover strange items or packages suspected to be Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) around their residences and commercial centres.
