Nigerian troops are repelling Boko Haram fighters in fierce battles in two towns in Borno state, the capital city of Maiduguri and Monguno, 134 kilometres away.
Nigeria’s military, vigilantes and residents confirmed the fighting. The attack in Maiduguri is taking place in Jimtilo area of the city. Residents have fled.
“Troops are repelling a simultaneous attack on Monguno and Maiduguri by terrorists,” the defense headquarters tweeted. More details soon
