Investigations revealed that Potter’s House Christian Church members put it there to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and to use it warn people that they face hell if they don’t embrace Jesus.
According to Aphiwe, a former drug dealer and convict who got converted to the Christian faith in 2009, “We use the coffin to urge people to embrace God.

Once death occurs, it is too late to decide. Everybody is going to die, so let’s find Jesus.” The pastor of the church Pastor Randall van Staden said church members use theatre, music and the coffin to spread the gospel in towns like Mossel Bay, Knysna and Oudts-hoorn.
However, some residents have described the strategy as “disrespectful” and frightening. Funeral is believed to be a very sacred event in South Africa but the church seems to be trivializing it.
