Former Head Of State Yokubu Gowon Reveals Why Military May Not Defeat Boko Haram By December

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, on Tuesday said that the activities of Boko Haram insurgents may not end in December as planned by the Federal Government.

Gowon, who stated this in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, although expressed confidence in the military’s renewed efforts in getting rid of terrorism in the country, he, however, said no one can say exactly when insurgency would end.

According to the former Head of State, from past experience, one may target a particular time to get rid of terrorism, but it may finish before that time or it may go slightly beyond.

He, however, said the most important thing is to end insurgency. Gowon appealed to Nigerians to employ prayers as an alternative and effective weapon to defeat Boko Haram.
