An illegal oil bunkering site in Tamunotonye Ama, in Ogu Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, was on Sunday destroyed by the Nigerian Army.

The army, said, 8 large barges loaded with illegally refined automated gas oil were arrested, two of which were estimated to have the capacity of 7 tanker trucks. Other illegal bunkering equipment were also discovered. The barges were towed to Ogoloma Jetty and the site was destroyed.

The Commander Operation of Pulo Shield, Major General Alani Okunlola, had however, earlier led troops and Journalists to the area, only to discover that the place was up and running.

The Commander who told Journalists that the site was used for massive crude oil theft activities, insisted that full military operation against the suspected oil thieves would be sustained.
