Milo MoirĂ©, 31, known for performing nude and using her body as art, spent the night in jail in Paris for public indecency during her ‘naked selfie performance’.
The artist and model had been approaching passers-by and taking selfies with them at the Trocadero square when police arrived and ordered her to put her clothes back on and then led her away.
Showing one's genitalia in a public place is punishable by a year in jail and a €15,000 (£10,600) fine, although there are specially-designated areas in France where nudists are allowed.
Artistic performances are also usually forgiven, according to Swiss newspaper Blick, raising the prospect that the French authorities did not consider Ms Moiré as a serious artist.
Her manager Peter Palm was present at the arrest and said: “She was taken into custody, had her rights read to her, fingerprints taken, photographed and detained in a cell.”
