Well it may be cultural. I dont understand their culture, but i know where i come from, there's a part in d traditinal ceremony, dat d bride wont smile, until her groom lavishes/sprays lots of money on her, then she smiles, and everyone gets excited together, and it indicates her full acceptance to be married to the groom, SO this might just be something similar
