Federal Government Says There Is No Fresh Ebola Case In Nigeria

The Federal Government has said there is no fresh Ebola Virus Disease case in Nigeria.
The position of the Federal Government is coming against the backdrop of the fears of a fresh outbreak of the disease in Nigeria based on an alarm raised in Calabar, Cross River State on Wednesday.

There were fears that a patient died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital from the Ebola virus.

But the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Linus Acute, said on Friday there was no cause for alarm. Acute made the clarification at a press briefing on Friday in Abuja.

He said the Ebola scare at the UCTH was as a result of the death of a patient, who reportedly manifested the symptoms of the disease.

But he said there was nothing to fear as it had been established the death did not occur as a result of Ebola. He said;
“It has been investigated clinically, also using laboratory tests. “The young man was down with symptoms that are similar with that of Ebola.
“His temperature was 37 degrees. “But he had not traveled outside Calabar. “His family has a case of chicken pox.
“Our experiences in Ebola containment were used. “The blood samples that were collected before his death were taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State and necessary tests were conducted to ascertain if he had Lasser Fever or Ebola.
“As we speak, it has nothing to do with Lasser Fever and Ebola as results confirmed that it was negative. “But the results of what actually killed him would be ready on Monday.
