Police Detectives attached to Onipanun Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested Ayodele Adedeji of Jackross, Iyana Iyesi, Ota for parading himself as a soldier in the Nigerian Army.
The suspect, who was monitored for some time by members of the public in the area, was accosted while the members of the community called the attention of a sergeant in the Nigerian army who resides in that community to ascertain if Adedeji was a genuine military man.
After interrogating Adedeji and the sergeant was not satisfied with the suspect’s explanation, he handed him over to the police.
During police interrogation, the suspect confessed to be a fake soldier who had been impersonating for long.
He stated further that his elder brother was in the Army and he died some years back before he picked up all his uniforms and accoutrements for use.
Items recovered from the suspect included two pairs of complete Nigerian Army uniforms, fake NA ID card, jungle boots, dummy gun, and other accoutrements of the Nigerian Army.
The Commissioner of Police CP Abdulmajid Ali directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Investigation and Intelligence in Ogun State to thoroughly investigate the matter to know if the suspect was involved in kidnapping,land speculation, armed robbery for proper prosecution of the case.
