The doomed couple met while the deceased was doing a part-time job as a cocktail waitress, and got engaged six months later.
They had just celebrated their wedding on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Denver Botanic Gardens, according to their wedding web page.
Bereaved groom wrote, “Turns out, we ended up having more things in common than we first thought, including a shared appreciation for kids’ movies, yoga, sarcasm and love for the outdoors. “It became apparent very quickly that we had both found ‘our person.”
Chaffee County police investigation revealed that around 1:15 pm, the couple were about 12,400 feet up the mountain when they were hit by lighting.
Tourists at the scene had to walk an hour to get service for their cellphones in order to call the police. It took rescuers until 5:00 p.m., to get to the injured couple, ABC 7 reported.
Unfortunately, Bartlett, was confirmed dead at the scene while two other hikers sustained minor injuries and her husband is in a stable condition at a hospital.
The bride’s friend, Deborah Young said, “She was just so in love and so grateful and just so happy.”
