As many officials of the President Goodluck Jonathan government have been drumming it into the ears of all who care to listen that they will take a break outside the shores of the country after their administration’s tenure elapse on the 29th of May 2015.
But according to report, the popular opinion around town is that they plan to travel to avoid being investigated for alleged corrupt practices while in government by the incoming Buhari administration.
1. Alhaji Namadi Sambo (Vice President) – Heading to London for a well-deserved rest.
2. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (Finance Minister) – Heading to the U.S to resume her job at the World Bank.
3. Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke (Petroleum Minister) – Already out of the country. To return for this week’s final meeting of the Federal Executive Council and jet out again. Exact excuse for travelling is yet unknown.
4. Dr. Khaliru Alhassan (Minister of Health) – Has plans to attend the ongoing World Health Assembly in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.
5. Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau (Minister of Education) – Exact excuse unknown, but he reportedly boasted that no amount of road block could stop him from travelling.
6. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro (Minister of Foreign Affairs II) – To travel abroad for a two-week vacation in Ghana, South Africa or US. Then start 6-week executive course in Harvard afterwards.
Meanwhile, some ministers have ruled out traveling. They include; Mr. Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Trade & Industry, Minister of Information; Senator Patricia Akwashiki, Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman and Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Aminu Wali.
In another development, President-elect, Muhammadu Buahri, has said that he will not follow the custom of the outgoing ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party who from 1999 till date depended on recommendations from state governors for ministerial appointments.
