See The 10 Poorest States In Nigeria

A recent survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics revealed the 10 poorest states in Nigeria with over 70% poverty rate.

Sokoto topped the list with poverty rate of 81.2%.

The climatic condition of Sokoto is very harsh, with a temperature of about 45C on normal days.
Most part of the state are rural with over eighty percent (80%) of the inhabitants practicing subsistence form of farming.

Katsina is in North central Nigeria with the highest poverty rate amongst states of that region.

Adamawa state was carved out from defunct Gongola in 1991. The state is being terrorized by Insurgent group, Boko Haram. This has affected to a large extent the economic activities of Adamawa state.

Gombe is in the North East of the country. Gombe has also suffered attacks from Boko Haram in time past.

Plateau State is the twelfth largest state of Nigeria. Plateau has had its share of terrorist attacks and communal clashes in time past.

Ebonyi is the only south eastern state among the top 9 poorest country.

Niger is the state with the lowest poverty rate which is 33.8%. It was followed by Osun (37.9%) and Ondo (45.7%). Bayelsa (47%) and Lagos (48.6%) have less than 50% poverty rate.

The average poverty rate in the Northwest geopolitical zone is 71.4%, which remained the highest in the said area. It is followed by the Northeast region which has 69.1% and the North central region which has 60.7%.

Poverty was least dominant in the Southwest (49.8%), South-South (55.5%), and South-East regions (59.5%).

What baffles me most is...most educated men,,top govt officials n office holders are all from d north n yet her people are really suffering.....imagine,,the root cause of corruption I think is from d grass roots....see small dubai,hw d hv transform their states with their oil....when we are rank among top 6 oil nation in d world....we also hv abundant mineral resources untab ......God help us oh...
