The Dress That Broke The Internet And Got All The Celebrities Talking On Social Media

I tried so hard to ignore this trending post but even my friends won't stop talking about it. I decided to go about it a different way.

The color of the above dress has got everyone including all the Hollywood/Nigerian celebrities talking Twitter, Instagram and more social media sites. People are debating about whether its is black and blue or if it is white and gold.

This debate has gotten so heated that celebs like, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Julianne Moore, Kat Dennings, Justin Bieber, Sarah Hyland and many more weighing in.

In real life, the dress is a $77 offering from British retailer Roman Originals, and it's most decidedly blue and black.

Now, My question is, what is the theory behind this dress and its color? If any CCNA'ers gets it right, you stand to get a $100 cash from me! So what color is the above dress and why?

    1. D discrepancy in what pipo see whn they look @ dis dress is because: The light hits the retina in the back of the eye where pigments fire up neural connections to the visual cortex, the part of the brain that processes those signals into an image. Critically, though, that first burst of light is made of whatever wavelengths are illuminating the world, reflecting off whatever you’re looking at. Without you having to worry about it, your brain figures out what color light is bouncing off the thing your eyes are looking at, and essentially subtracts that color from the “real” color of the object. Hmmm! "Uwaifo don talk e own o".

  6. The Dress phenomenon began after a woman posted a photo of her mother's dress for her wedding ... asking people to ID the color. From there...explosion  with the likes of Justin Bieber (blue and black), Kim K (white and gold), and Taylor Swift (blue and black) all weighing in. The dress is d most popular in the world right now...

    1. Let me help u with the theory.... so that we go share am.... the perception of colours comes from light combination by our light sensors(cones and rods) which especially from the three primary colours.... blue red and yellow..and ds light sensors are genetically made up differently from one person to anoda.. . so our perception of colour solely depends on our light sensors since it is different from one person to another... we den percieve colours differently... anoda tin that can really alter our colour interpretation is the lighting of the room.... I will conclude by saying the theory behind ds is LIGHT AND COLOUR INTERPRETATION AND ILLUSION....

  9. It's white and Gold because sighting of colours of peeps are different according to scientist

  10. The dress is essentially a black and blue dress but it is capable of producing an optical illusion whereby it reflects a large amount of light..those with very sensitive eyes would pick up on these extra light and see the dress as white and gold whereas it is actually really black and blue

    ReplyDelete

    1. The optical illusion is also as a result of the differences in the cones of each person's retina (the cones are a layer of nerve tissue on the retina that lines the back of our eyes and detect the blue, green, and red in an image). The cones and your brain can therefore mix those colors to make other colors.

  11. More also scientist have prove that wen there is a big even in life that is having a negative effect on someone, the sighting of colours maybe different. So that is why the real colour is white and Gold

  12. Colours of two-tone bodycon dress as white with gold lace detailing
royal blue with black, the colour is actually blue and black, but because of the lightenning its fooling quite a lot of people.

  16. #blueandblack... so the colour of the dress is blue and black.

And here is a short story about the dress. Two women are actually behind this dress that has gotten almost everyone confused. The picture was initially posted on Tumblr by a 21-year-old singer named Caitlin McNeill.

McNeill explained that the dress was worn to her friends' wedding. Some people see the dress as it appears in the photo as white and gold, while others see it as blue and black.

"What happened was two of my close friends were actually getting married and the mother of the bride took a photo of the dress to send to her daughter," McNeill said. "When my friend showed the dress to her fiancé, they disagreed on the color."

The bride then posted the picture on Facebook, and her friends continued to debate the color of the dress.

"All of our friends disagreed," McNeill said.

After seeing the Facebook thread, McNeill decided to share the picture on a fan page she has on Tumblr dedicated to a woman named Sarah Weichel. That was where the dress went viral.

For Weichel, there is no question about what color the dress is.

"Black and blue of course!" she said.

Weichel put Business Insider in touch with McNeill, who said one of the oddest parts of the experience had been watching celebrities share her picture.

"I thought my followers on Tumblr would maybe have a good reaction, but I never would have considered that Taylor Swift and Mindy Kaling would be tweeting about it," McNeill said.

Dats all. Chaiii; see as 100usd make me go dey research. Chi chi, no play wit me ohhh; u kno dollar dey high now so quick senddd ddown the dollars ohhhh and I need the 100dollar bill not one dollar or 5dollars bcos dos one no get better value

    1. BIOLOGICALLY or SCIENTIFICALLY

One possible explanation may be down to an optical
illusion, stemming from how the human brain
      processes colours.
The brain's perception can be thrown by the
colours of nearby objects, and their reflected light
falling on the object in focus - in this case the
      dress.
      Actually the way
      people see colours varies hugely.
"One in 12 men is colour blind. But what
people don't know is that even if the rest of us are
not colour blind we don't always see colour in the
      same way.
"The surprising thing is that this doesn't happen
more often. People think if they take a photo of
something, people will see the same thing but of
      course that is not true."
      the "strange" lighting in the
picture had probably contributed to the confusion.
"If it hadn't been taken under very strange
lighting this probably wouldn't have happened
because if you look at the manufacturer's picture, it
      is indisputably blue and black."
      the confusion could
stem from how we name colours, as there are
often blurred lines between how we interpret what
      colour something is.
But this is an extreme case as "there is a
huge difference between black and gold, blue and
      white".
"It is possible that people could literally be
seeing different colours but it's impossible to know
      what is in someone's head...

  24. e reason why some people see black on blue while others are just as certain that they see gold on white.

The simple answer is that the picture is an optical illusion.

Objects reflect light at certain wavelengths, or colours, and the human brain determines the colour of an object by taking in its reflected light. But this perception can be thrown off balance by the colour of nearby objects.

With the photo of the dress, the surrounding colours are so muddled that the brain isn't sure what to make of the dress itself.

A digital analysis of the dress photo shows that one of the spots of black trim is actually orange in the photo.

Thus, people who perceive the surrounding area as dark are likely to see the blue in the dress as white and the black colours as gold. It all just depends on the manner that the brain perceives and processes colour.

Jay Neitz, a University of of Washington neuroscience tells Wired: 'I’ve studied individual differences in colour vision for 30 years, and this is one of the biggest individual differences I’ve ever seen.'

    He sees gold on white
