Tension In Ebonyi As Fresh Plot To Impeach Governor Elechi Thickens

There is a fresh plot to impeach Ebonyi State Governor Martin Elechi, it was learnt yesterday. An unnamed Anambra State businessman is said to have released N50million to finance the plot.

Ten out of the 24-member House of Assembly were alleged to have collected N10 million each through a colleague of theirs to prosecute the plot.

It was learnt that a balance of N40 million would be given to them next week during which the impeachment notice will be served on the governor. These claims, however, could not be verified as at press time.

It was also learnt that efforts were being made to bring at least six other legislators on board to meet the constitutional number needed to remove the governor.

The move was necessitated by the belief in certain quarters that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have a hard time in the forthcoming governorship election if Elechi is allowed to remain in office.

It was alleged that the impeachment move may not be unconnected with the governor’s alleged “closeness” to the Labour Party (LP).

  1. Everybody is fighting for his or her own pocket. I remember wen I was served in Nasarawa. The best governor in the history of d state, Tanko Al-Makura, they wanted to impeach him. For what reason? Only God will help us but we need to help ourselves by saying and doing wat is right.

    2. Olovo nobe lie ooo! I stayed in ebonyi for about 13years, and since Sam egwu left office, there hasn't been any development in the state, up till date! Even the structures that he left, elechi hasn't been able to complete them till now, and they are still delaying to impeach him.

  8. Elechi was a mistake as he is not fit as a developmental leader. But isn't it laughable that they are trying to impeach simply because he is romancing with the labour party now!
Where were they all this time, is it now that election is just a month to go. I know they are just wasting their time on this. And if the house members allow themselves to be used, then am sorry for democracy.
