Boko Haram Seizes Army Base In Baga, Sets Town On Fire

Boko Haram militants on Saturday, January 3 attacked Baga town in Maiduguri seizing the military base and setting the town ablaze. Residents who fled to Chad says they woke up to sounds of heavy gunfire as militants stormed Baga early morning on Saturday, attacking from all directions. The residents added that they took to their heels after they saw the army troops running away.

Maina Maaji Lawan, senator for Borno North, told BBC World Service that civilians had run while some ran into the forest, some into the desert;
“Communications with the town were cut off and exact information about casualty numbers could not be confirmed. We are very dispirited. There is definitely something wrong that makes our military abandon their posts each time there is an attack from Boko Haram," the senator said.

  4. Whn u see people who are more motivated than u what do u do? If na me I for kele o! D sad thing is dat if u die in d course of a gun battle with d insurgents d country will not even honour u and d same ogas doin d sabotage will continue aftr u've sacrificed ur life. I've heard of soldiers who out of passion 4 lives shot at boko haram as dey killed innocent civillians and their boss will not give an order for dem 2 defend d civillians. Those soldiers gallant enough to defile their ogas stance are xfered from these warring zones 2 places where dey will hav nothing 2 do. Many soldiers hav evn fled 2 neighbouring countries bcos obviously boko haram is more secure than dey are. Nigeria as a country, pardon me 2 say "is an irony". A place where left is right, black is white, front is back and d army is boko haram. Soldier man wey wan stay make dem kill am. Hmmm! "Uwaifo don talk e own o"
