Luiz Suarez returned to his native home of Uruguay yesterday June 27th to a hero's welcome after being booted out of the World Cup and banned from all football for four-months for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini. Not only were hundreds of fans at Montevideo airport to welcome him, waving banners of support, but the president of Uruguay, Jose Mujica, was also at the airport.
I do not agree with / condone what he's done... But these south American countries have something Nigerians should learn to exhibit... the consciousness of "na our own person " ...even if the west vilify one of our nationals, we should not just jump on the western bandwagon of "shoot am, kill am, die... " etc etc... rather, give much publicized national support & give in house help & conditioning to reform the troubled individual.... The dipolar cases of Diego Maradona & Etim Esin spring to mind...
